This past week was one for the books. I’m just back from California after speaking at Varsity Spirit’s corporate conference, and I’ve got so much on my heart to share. If you’ve ever felt like everything is working against you when you’re trying to step into your purpose, you’re not alone. I’ve been there. In fact, I live it every time I prepare to walk into the room to inspire, to teach, or to pour into others.
The forces of hell seem to get extra creative right before I’m about to step into my calling. Flat tires, delayed flights, arguments, or even tech issues—these things don’t just happen by chance. I’ve learned they’re a distraction, a way to pull my focus from the souls in the room I’m meant to impact. But here’s what I’ve also learned: those challenges are proof that I’m on the right path. When you’re doing what you were created to do, resistance is inevitable. Instead of letting it derail me, I’ve made a choice to push through with determination and gratitude.
Nervous Energy Is a Gift
Here’s a little secret: I still get nervous before I speak. Every single time. And you know what? I’m so glad I do. Those nerves aren’t a sign of weakness—they’re a sign of reverence. They remind me that what I’m about to do matters. They tell me that I’m stepping into something bigger than myself.
I hope you still feel nervous about something, too. Maybe it’s before a big presentation at work, a heartfelt conversation with someone you love, or taking the first steps toward a dream you’ve been holding onto. Those nerves mean your soul is on fire. They mean you care deeply about what you’re doing. I’ve learned to channel that nervous energy into purpose, and I encourage you to do the same.
Authenticity Over Perfection
During my talk with Varsity Spirit, I was reminded once again how much people crave realness. I joked about my flaws, shared personal stories, and opened my heart. Afterward, I kept hearing from people in the audience: “We appreciate your realness.” That meant everything to me because it confirmed what I’ve always believed—more people are drawn to your imperfections than to your perfections.
We live in a world that pushes us to wear masks and chase impossible standards. But here’s the truth: no one needs you to be perfect. What they need is your honesty, your vulnerability, and your willingness to share what you’ve been through. Your story—scars and all—might be the key that unlocks healing for someone else. So, take off the mask. Be real. Your authenticity is your superpower.
Finding Joy in the Journey
While I was out in California, I made a choice. Instead of rushing back home immediately after my talk, I stayed an extra day. I took a red-eye flight home so I could linger at the resort, have meaningful conversations, and soak in the beauty around me. Let me tell you, it was worth every second (even if I did regret that red-eye a little the next day).
During lunch, I had the sweetest conversation with a group of women about signs from heaven. We talked about hummingbirds, dreams, and the ways our loved ones who’ve passed still show up for us. It was a reminder of how much magic there is when we slow down, stay open, and make room for connection.
Later that evening, I sat by a fireplace, listened to a sound bath, and reflected on how grateful I am to do what I do. I don’t ever want to take this life for granted. Every conversation, every smile, every opportunity to connect—it’s all a gift. And y’all, I don’t want you to miss it.
Looking Ahead to 2025
As we wrap up this year, I want to challenge you to reflect on your own life. Who do you want to be in 2025? What do you want to accomplish? How do you want to show up for the people you love? Start dreaming, visualizing, and writing it all down. And here’s the important part: give yourself grace. You did the best you could with what you had in 2024, but there’s always room to grow.
I’m here to walk alongside you in that growth. Whether it’s through coaching, the Joystarters Blueprint course, or the podcast, I’m committed to helping you step into your purpose with joy, resilience, and confidence.
So, let’s do this together. Don’t let the distractions, the nerves, or the imperfections hold you back. You’ve got everything you need to create a life you love—a life that’s authentic, purpose-driven, and full of joy. And if you need a little help along the way, you know where to find me.
